I don’t know about you, but I absolutely LOVE board games. All kinds. It’s been that way since I was a little kid. Something about musical chairs, and freeze-tag never really spoke to me.

As an adult my love for board games has only grown. I have over 20 board games, and card games and I continue add to my collection. Don’t judge me.

I really enjoy having friends over and just playing games! It’s a great way to get to know people, have fun, talk, and of course, there is always some “friendly” competition going on. However, it isn’t always easy getting a group of friends together because our schedules are so different! Luckily for me, my husband enjoys playing games as much as I do and we often find ourselves in competition mode.

Despite what he may think. I basically always win.

Here are 5 of my all favorite games! These games are fantastic because they are not only great for large groups, but they also work perfectly for two people. Instant date night.

  1. Scrabble

This is one of my favorite games ever! If you love words and puzzles, this game is for you! You’ll need to create words using the tiles that you have. It is a lot harder than it sounds, especially if you get stuck with letters that are hard to use.

2. Phase 10

Okay, let me just say this right now: this game takes forever. The point of this game is to complete each of the 10 phases. You can only move on to the next phase if you have completed the previous one. Which means that you can be stuck on phase one, while your hubby is moving on to phase 8, and one of the kids is working on phase 3. I don’t think I’ve ever played the game the entire way through. It’s like Monopoly in that sense. Prepare to camp out.

3. Spot It

Spot It is such a simple game… in theory. Each card has a bunch of little characters (zebra, tree, question mark, etc. ) and you’ll need to be able to locate them. There are many different ways to play this game, just read the instructions to find out! The best part is that it can even fit in your pocket!

4. Unexploded Cow

Round up your herd, it’s time to explode some cows! Unexploded Cow is a game of strategy. It is so simple, it’s actually not. You take turns trying to explode cows and rack up your points. It’s all fun and games until someone steals your cow.

5. Guillotine

I saved the best for last because “heads will roll” (haha get it?) Last Christmas we took a family trip to see my brother in Utah and he introduced us to this game. I’ve been hooked ever since. The point of the game is to get the most points, but the action cards (and sneaky people) make it a lot harder than it should be! Seriously, this game is the best. Everyone we have introduce the games to has loved it!
